Passau
It’s Sunday morning and all the church bells are ringing in another day as I sit in my bed and contemplate another beautiful day (and feel just a little sad that the cycling part of my trip is over!)
So just for memory’s sake, here are a few more photos…
The day started early, with everyone getting ready to disembark. Those people work so hard! First every suitcase on deck…then all of us on the top deck, waiting. The Captain was happy with progress and arrived in Passau at 9.15 instead of the scheduled 11, so was sent back down the Danube to await his turn for a berth. So we sat and chatted and waited…a big tour group and bikes were first..every item of luggage carried up a gangplank, over the deck of the neighbouring boat and down another gangplank! We finally got off at 11.30 and I got a taxi with the others, to await Ian and Geli at the station.
And these are mainly e-bikes they’re carrying!
And so begins another part of my adventure…PASSAU…and I thought Vienna was stunning. But this is a close match.
On a friend’s recommendation, we chose the very old Art Hotel, a heritage building on a big cobbled pedestrian square, filled with cafes and shops. I had a rest and a wander around shops whilst G and E caught up with her brother who lives nearby.
Then we had to prioritise dinner as we hadn’t eaten all day…a big bowel of pasta with cream and Hungarian sausage did the trick. Then more following our noses down streets and alleys, staircases and lanes..everywhere cobbled. I had read that a certain Cafe Museum has jazz, and we managed to find it! And there was a gorgeous woman singing lovely familiar songs in German and English and also playing a flute and guitar. What bliss as we sat right next to the river, having a drink and feeling like locals. (Apart from the main square, there really don’t seem to be that many obvious visitors and there are many spaces with no one there!)
Once again it was buildings, buildings and endless gazing upwards…
Our square, with hotel on right…no pics of it as it’s just a door in the wall!
Google it…some better pics than I could provide
No more towel art, but I found a large rabbit.
Cathedral of St Stephan
So many roses everywhere
The longest day of the year and still some light in the sky as I go to bed at 10 pm!
