16000 steps in Bratislava! (Or maybe “If this is Wednesday, it must be Slovakia”)
Yes, that’s correct…11.43 kms to be exact. We were out catching a bus at 7.30 and back on a boat on the Danube at 8.30. So I will post pics tomorrow as am totally exhausted and ready for bed now.
We found a street with many beautiful umbrellas and a simple cafe where we could have breakfast away from the many tourists in the Main Street (note to self: avoid going on a Viking Cruise!)
Highlights: Buildings, street scenes, people watching and commenting on the very impractical shoes often worn on cobbled streets, listening to 2 guitarists and cellist busking in the square for over an hour, the castle on top of the hill, eventually finding the Drak and Finch on the way down the hill-surprisingly good lunch and local beer called Grunt, more beautiful buildings, lanes and alleyways, the ride home on the Twin City Liner-a large catamaran which travels between the 2 closest capital cities in Europe.
Lows: The dreary bus ride in-traffic, wind farms and thousands of ugly apartment buildings from the Communist era, no view of the Old Town from the castle, the long, hot slog up to the castle, the very grumpy proprietor at the Drak and Finch, the not very attractive Slovakians, the endless groups being led around by flag-holding tour guides
That’s enough! And now for the pics…
It’s a city of many statues….
This guy is known as Cumil -previously a worker in the sewers, now notorious for looking up ladies’ skirts!
Interesting contrasts…old building with traditional cafe…and old building with not such a traditional cafe!
And let’s not forget the Communists!
Pooped (with a capital F), but happy.
Chaz: Yay yay yay!
